John Parauka Obituary

PARAUKA John Marcijona Parauka age 82 passed away at his home in Mandeville, Louisiana on February 18, 2006. He was a retired firefighter from the City of Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mr. Parauka was born in New Haven, Connecticut on May 22, 1923 and moved to Louisiana this past spring after living many years in Florida. Mr. Parauka was a skilled carpenter and created scrollwork items in his spare time. He served in the U.S. Navy on an LST in the South Pacific in World War II as a rated cook 2/c. Mr. Parauka was a member of several organizations including: the LST Association, the Disabled American Veterans #53, Veterans of Foreign Wars #4250, American Legion #317, Loyal Order of Moose #1835, B.P.O. Elks #1557 and AARP #3037. He was a professional Shuffleboard player and a member of three Shuffleboard Clubs in Florida: Mainland, Edgewater and Orange City. He enjoyed carpentry, traveling, playing shuffleboard and gardening. Survivors include: his daughter, Linda L. Frere, Palm Springs, CA; sons, John George, Mandeville, LA, Richard A., Orange, Conn.; five grandchildren and brother, Edward Parauka of Hamden, Conn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Reid Parauka. A full Military honors burial will be held April 12, 2006 in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. SCHOEN FUNERAL HOME of COVINGTON, LA is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Salvation Army.
