John Petrocco Obituary

John Petrocco passed away on Sunday, December 14, 2014, at the age of 89. Dearly beloved father of six children: Dianne Casalena, Tony Petrocco, Cecilia Petrocco (Clark), Stephanie Sceiczina (Phil), Paul Petrocco (Maria), and Jennifer Balser (Bob); grandfather of Amanda and Melanie Sceiczina, Ryan, Kyle and Brett Balser; and husband of the late Mary Petrocco. Born and raised in the mountains of Colorado, he later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. John was awarded a Purple Heart with an Oak Leaf Cluster (European Theater of Operations). He graduated in 1950 from Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Geophysical Engineering. While there, he played football and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and Theta Tau Honorary Society. John worked for SOHIO, Kerr McGee, Florida Gas Exploration, and Ansythe Exploration. He was a member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) since 1950, Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES), the New Orleans Geological Society, and the Southeastern Geophysical Society. He enjoyed life while spending time with family, gardening, traveling, fishing, and watching sports. A special thank you to the staff of Ochsner Medical Center and Heart of Hospice for their care and compassion. Private memorial service to be held in the small town of Marble, Colorado, at a future date. Arrangements by Greenwood Funeral Home.
