Joseph Cousans Obituary

Joseph Patrick ""Pat'' Cousans, a retired U. S. Postal Clerk, died Friday, June 3, 2005 of cancer at his home. He was 82 years old. Pat was born in New Orleans. LA and a resident of Metairie, LA for 50 years. A veteran of World War II, Pat was discharged as a staff sergeant in the medical corps as a dental technician. While with the Post Office, Pat received numerous special achievement awards for ideas of improving movement of the mail. A parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, he received the Order of St. Louis from the Archdiocese and Man of the Year from the Archdiocesan Holy Name Union. Pat accomplished this with minimal education, leaving school as a young man to assist his parents as best he could. Pat is survived by his bride of 55 years, Dolores Ducote Cousans; two sons, Patrick J. Cousans of Seattle, WA and Dal J. Cousans of Metairie, LA; and two grandsons, Austen of Los Angeles, CA and Kyle of Metairie. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Tuesday, June 7, 2005 at 11:00 AM at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 448 Metairie Road, Metairie, LA. Visitation will be on Monday, June 6, 2005 at ALL FAITHS FUNERAL HOME, 5200 Canal Blvd. (adjacent to Greenwood Cemetery) from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM. Visitation Tuesday will be at St. Francis Xavier Church from 10:00 AM until time of Mass. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Masses preferred or contributions to St. Francis Xavier Building Fund.
