Joseph Shields Obituary

Joseph Louis Shields, of Metairie, Louisiana, died on Friday, September 2, 2022. He was 92. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh Shields and Thelma Wingerter Shields, and his dear wife of 45 years, Vivian Kuss Shields. He is survived by his six children, Stephanie Cain (Gene), Mark Shields, Konrad Shields (Vickie), Kenneth Shields (Tom), Sandra Mineo (Craig), and Steven Shields (Kimberly); grandchildren, Candace Richie (Brian), Justin Cain, Christian Chapman, Jamie LeGrand (Andre), Emily Robért (Rene), Amanda Shavers (Chris), Megan Wilkerson (Joseph), Sophie Shields, and Samuel Shields; great-grandchildren, Elisa and Milo Richie, Noah Cain, Collin Chapman, Blakely and Blair LeGrand, Jean Luc Robért, James Shavers, and Montana Wilkerson; and his sister, Elva Treadaway. Joseph was an incredibly kind and generous gentleman. He was a parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, where he dedicated many years to their adoration chapel, as a coordinator and participant. He was very devoted to his daily prayer life. He loved each and every one of his children, and their spouses, in a special way, and he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joseph served four years in the Air Force, in the 3592nd Flight Line Maintenance Squadron. He became a Sargent and received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. The skills he learned in the service helped him to land his position as supervisor with Western Electric Telephone Company. After early retirement, he went back to work as a millwright doing turn arounds for General Electric. He enjoyed a long and blessed life. He loved golfing, fishing, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed. The family would like to send their love and appreciation to Ms. Yvonne Morise for being a dear friend and companion to our father for the past nine years. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial Mass at St. Clement of Rome Catholic Church, 4317 Richland Ave. in Metairie, on Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 11:00 am. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 9:30 am. The interment will follow the Mass at Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
