He was my homeroom teacher at BFHS. We didn't really have much association, but he was a pleasant presence to start off each school day.

Ken was my English as a Second Language at Gretna Junior High School in Gretna, Louisiana, when I first arrived the United States in 1980. With his help, I was admitted to the University of New Orleans in the following Summer. Since that time Ken had always been my mentor and a father. He had never missed sending me a birthday card.

I hope he can rest peacefully and believe that he misses his unfiltered Camel cigarette.

I was one of the ESL Vietnamese students he taught at Gretna Junior High. I was 15 years old. At the time, I had the biggest crush on him. He laughed and called me "a silly little girl." He changed my life: He told me about Brandeis University, helped me apply, wrote me a recommendation letter, and gave me the $50 application fee. Because of Dr. Chandor, I received an education from Brandeis. In the past 20 years, we very often wrote letters to each other. His letters were always typed on the old-fashioned typewriter, with hand-written edits in ink. He was very prompt to reply, so I always owed him a letter, until this past year... He still owes me a letter. I will always treasure the many wonderful and loving memories I have of Dr. Chandor.

Kenneth F. Chandor was my English teacher in the fall of 1973. I remember him very fondly not only because he gave me an A in the course but also because he was an excellent teacher, and because I learned a lot from him in that course at that time. He was one teacher I will remember all the time. May he now rest in peace.

Ken Chandor was a good man. I enjoyed our years teaching together and the many visits we had on the phone after Katrina. I'll miss him much.
