Lawrence Henling Obituary

HENLING Lawrence J. Henling, Jr. Born August 22, 1920 in New Orleans, LA; died July 9, 2013 in Seattle, WA. Survived by Colleen, his loving wife of 62 years; his children, Colleen E. Henling, Lawrence M. Henling, Daniel P. Henling, and Brian S. Henling (Geri); his grandchildren, Julie, Shelly, Molly, Lily, Carly, and Paul. Larry was a native and resident of New Orleans, until leaving in 2011 to live with his son Brian and his family in Seattle. He worked as a civilian employee of the US Army before enlisting in the US Navy in 1942. During the war he earned a bachelor's degree in Naval Engineering at Tufts University. After discharge in 1946 he proudly served as a US Naval Reserve Officer for 35 years, retiring as a Lt. Commander. During this time he worked first for the Navy, and then the US Department of Agriculture. He was a loving father and grandfather, and a friend to many, quick to offer assistance to family, friends, and relatives. He will be greatly missed. There will be a private service in Seattle, WA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The National WWII Museum, 945 Magazine St, New Orleans, LA 70130. Masses would also be greatly appreciated by the family. Guest book at harveyfuneral.com

It is so hard when we lose one so close. He is often in my thoughts and prayers. He is in a happier place with others we hold dear. He will remain with us always.

To Dan and the family,
When something like this happens, it's hard to find words that sound truly comforting I can only pray that the Lord will speak to your heart in the still, small voice that brings comfort and peace. You're in my Prayers.
