I went to school with Leonard and was very sad to hear of his passing. I know he is in a better place, but also remember all the things he accomplished in life. He was a great husband and father. He was also a great coach, teacher and friend to all. I was proud to hear of his accomplishments and the tremendous life he led. He will truly be missed by many. God Bless!

I knew Coach Drake throughout my high school and college career. He was the first coach to take a chance and believe in my ability to play the game of basketball. He was a great coach and person. My prayers are with his family. Coach you will always be in my heart. Thank you for believing. You'll never be forgotten.

Rhonda,
I thought about you and Coach Drake a few weeks ago and wondered how you were doing. It's been a long time since we've spoken....BSU days.
I got the call this morning from Derrick Wesley regarding Coach. I am truly sorry and please know you're in my thoughts and prayers.

my father was the team physician for CMU when lenny played there and we went to all the games. i'll never forget him taking a charge against bowling green, then sinking a one-in-one with a second on the clock to win by one. to this day, my two brothers and i still mimic his free throw--with the hesitation! he provided my family with wonderful memories. may you all feel the Lord's blessings during your time of grieving. grace and peace to you all!

Rhonda, I will never forget how you and Leonard welcomed my son, Micah as he was in Len's basketball camp at CMU. You all welcomed him to stay at his relative's home, "as he is family" as you stated. And I mentioned this to Len when I spoke to him over the phone while he was in Las Vegas this year. Yes, he was humble, kind and not boastful and a true man of God. I cherish what you guys gave us and often speak of it. Jared, Enjoli and Rhonda, remember that Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal. I pray God's strength and Peace be unto you.
Your cousin, Val/

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

David and I are so saddened by Leonard's passing. What a "gentle" man and what a gentleman... the epitomy of "class act" and shining example of what "Love Is"... "Love is patient; love is kind and envies no one. Love is never boastful, nor conceited, nor rude; never selfish, not quick to take offense. There is nothing love cannot face; there is no limit to its faith, its hope, and endurance. In a word, there are three things that last forever: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of them all is love." And, oh, how Leonard loved you, dear Rhonda, Jared, and Enjoli. Our thoughts and prayers are there with you. Sincerely, Leonard's "forever" secretary "Miss Tess" and husband David Pate
