Lois Boyd Obituary

BOYD Lois Elizabeth Bradley Boyd, age 89 years, died on Thursday, January 15 2009 -- 1:48pm at Ochsner Medical Center West-bank. Beloved wife of the late Frederick E. Boyd Sr., and Mother of Frederick E. Boyd Jr., Kenneth W. Boyd Sr., Byron P. Boyd and Beryl B. Jones. Daughter of the late George and Nellie Sheffie Bradley. She was born in Napoleonville, LA on October 6, 1919. A graduate of McDonogh 35 High School and Xavier University of Louisiana Class of 1940. Ms. Lois then worked as an educator with both Orleans and Jefferson Parish School systems. She was a long-time teacher at Bridge City, Elm Grove and Anastasia Alexander Elementary Schools. Devoted to her Catholic faith, she worshiped at Blessed Sacrament, St. Joan of Ac, St. Maria Goretti, St. Simon Peter and Sts. Peter and Paul (Decatur, GA) Catholic Churches. She was a member of Ecrof-14 social club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Peter Claver-Our Lady of Perpetual Help - Court 47. She leaves to mourn three daughters-in-law, Carlette Stewart Boyd, Gilda De-Clouette Boyd and Debra Neely Boyd; nine grandchildren, Kourtney (Clyde) Cole, Keenan, Kenneth, Roderick, Erica, Jason, Kristin (Ryan) Duplessis, Darrius and Derek; two great grandchildren, Ciara and Jerod; two sisters, Josephine Powe and Hazel Davis, a long time devoted friend Elizabeth " Birdie " Obee, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priests, pastors, parishioners, officers and members of Blessed Sacrament/St. Joan of Arc Congregation, St. Maria Goretti Catholic Churches and China Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Atlanta, GA; employees of the Recovery School District, PANOPSI, City of New Orleans Office of the Inspector General, Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, RTA/Veiola, Marriott Evergreen Conference Resort, Ports America and Ceres Gulf; members of I.L.A Local #'s 1497 and 3000, staff and residents of The Landing at Behrman Place are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Maria Goretti Catholic church, 7300 Crowder Blvd, Rev. Monsignor Earl Gauthreaux, celebrant --- 11:00 am. Interment Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation 9:00 am with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 10:30 am in the church. CHARBONNET-LABAT-GLAPION 581-4411
