Louis Huson Obituary

Louis Gordon Huson, age 80, died peacefully at home in Lacombe, Louisiana on June 21, 2024. He was born on September 7, 1943 in Natchitoches, Louisiana, to Louis Henry (Jack) and Rosalie Barnes Huson. Louis is preceded in death by his parents and 3 beloved dogs, Rondeau, Dondeau, and Cowboy. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his husband, Jim Farr of Faubourg Marigny/Lacombe; sister, Ginger Horton (Ryan) of Montgomery, Texas; nieces Heather Reisman (David) of Austin, Texas and Revere Stafford (Dennis) of Houston, Texas; as well as three great-nieces, one great-nephew, and two great-great nieces; and his dog, Joshua. Louis graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1961 and studied architecture at Louisiana State University, earning his Bachelor's degree of Architecture in 1967. Immediately upon his graduation, Louis was employed by the United States Corp of Engineers in Savannah, Georgia. In the early 1970s, Louis began a long and distinguished career as an architect for the New Orleans firm, Curtis and Davis. Louis was the lead designer for numerous projects both locally and internationally, including the New Orleans Sports Arena. In 1991, he won the prestigious American Institute of Architecture (AIA) Award for Excellence in Architecture and Design for the home of Bhansali/Scindia in Pearl River County. In 1999, Louis and Jim Farr established the New Orleans architectural firm of Farr+Huson, where he worked until retirement in 2016. Louis enjoyed reading, collecting art, and traveling to numerous international destinations, but was truly happiest at home, dividing his time between a historic home in Faubourg Marigny and a second home, "Leftovers" in Lacombe. The family will gather privately to celebrate Louis' life. Those wishing to make a donation in his memory are encouraged to send a gift to the Louisiana SPCA, 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70114 or give.louisianaspca.org.

I am so sorry to hear this unexpected news, but how lucky to have had such a wonderful partner for so many years.

We seldom saw each other than on the 4th of July at Gretchen's until that ceased. It was such a pleasure seeing you both and catching up during that time. I knew Louis casually from his early years in the Lower Quarter when I was in my late 20s, I guess we were the same age as I approach 80 this year. Wishing you continued memories of a long, loving life together.
