Louis Sanchez Obituary

Louis Roy Sanchez, 95, of Gretna, La and Greenville, SC died peacefully at Forest Manor Nursing and Rehab Center in Covington, La.  He was the loving husband of Georgette Hinyub Sanchez for 64 years who preceded him in death in 2009. Born in Plaquemine, La on January 5, 1922 to the late Anthony and Angelina (Ruiz) Sanchez. He was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. Louis grew up in Gretna, La joined the Marines at the outbreak of WWII and after 7 years rose to the rank of Sargent, was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the South Pacific campaign with the 6th Regimen 3rd Marine Division. Louis spent 35 years in the banking industry. He loved helping people anyway he could and was active in a number of civic organization.  Louis will be greatly missed by his daughter Lola Sanchez Mayer and her husband Pete of Ponchatoula, La and his sons, Louis G Sanchez, who preceded his father in death and Tony Sanchez and his wife Judith (Porter) Sanchez.  He found great pleasure in his 7 adorable grandchildren and his 10 great grandchildren.  Louis enjoyed the company of his friends and above all else, loved and took great pride in his family. Committal of his remains will be with military honors in the MJ "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC.
