Louise Korns Obituary

KORNS Louise Schramm Korns passed away on Wednesday, February 15, in her home. Louise was born in New Orleans, LA in 1915. She attended Newcomb College, graduating in 1937, after which she spent several years living in Europe. She was married and had two sons, Alexander and John. Louise later attended Tulane Law School, where she had the top grade average in her class, served on the Tulane Law Review, and graduated in 1954. She was a law clerk to two justices on the Louisiana Supreme Court for eight years. In 1962, she was appointed an Assistant District Attorney for Orleans Parish by newly-elected D.A. Jim Garrison. Through Mr. Garrison's terms in office and during his successor Harry Connick's service, she briefed and argued criminal appeals in the Louisiana Supreme Court and later the Louisiana Court of Appeals. She also briefed and argued several appeals in the U.S. Supreme Court. After retiring from the Orleans Parish District Attorney's Office, for a number of years she served in the same role in the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's office. After retiring, she remained active, traveling to Europe and to the Washington, D.C. area. Known to many as ""Weezie,'' Louise is survived by her sons: Alexander (and his wife Jackie) of Bogor, Indonesia and John (and his wife Paulette) of Alexandria, Virginia; her grandsons: Michael (and his wife Katherine) of Washington, D.C., Peter of New York City, Paul of Alexandria, Virginia and Robert (OB) of Bogor, Indonesia; her sister, Alice Robinson of Bethesda, Maryland; nephews and nieces; and grand nephews and nieces and their spouses, all of whom were very close. She enjoyed the care and friendship of Carolyn Washington and her extended family during her last years, and particularly during the travails following Hurricane Katrina. Her former husband, William Korns, died in 1994. A Memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church at Louisiana Avenue and Chestnut Street on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.

My thoughts are with your family. Louise was an elegant, lovely mystery in my childhood, and I spent rare but memorable good times with her in New Orleans.

As half-sister to Alex and John Korns, I will always be glad that these families stayed in touch.

My prayers are with the family and also with you Carolyn. Ms. Korns will be missed by all. She was a very special person. During the last years of her life, she endured a lot. She was definitely a very, very strong person. God be with you all.
