Margaret Fuller Obituary

Margaret Monvoisin Fuller passed away on the afternoon of Friday, March 4, 2022 surrounded by her family. Beloved only child of the late Frank Anthony Monvoisin and Jessie Watson Monvoisin and beloved wife of the late Clarence Gerald "Jerry" Fuller. Margaret was born on November 25, 1935 and raised in the Faubourg St John neighborhood of New Orleans. A proud alumna of Ursuline Academy, Margaret attended Loyola University where she studied English literature and was a reporter for the Maroon Newspaper and member of the Little Flower Sodality. Margaret left her studies to raise her family, but returned to complete her undergraduate degree in English and graduate coursework in secondary education at the University of New Orleans. Margaret had a lifelong love for literature with an uncanny ability to quote her favorite writers and poets at the most opportune moments. Her enduring appreciation for history, especially New Orleans history, culminated in her serving as the Director of Tours and Volunteers first at the Hermann-Grima Historic House and later at the Cabildo. Margaret spent the last 29 years living in Mandeville, where she was a parishioner at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church and a member of the Mary Queen of Peace Women's Spirituality Group. Margaret will be remembered fondly for her keen intellectual curiosity, her kindness to others, her beautiful smile and an enduring love for her children whom she often said were her greatest accomplishment. She is survived by her six children: Mark John Spansel (Joy), Anne Spansel Arbo (David), Paul Jude Spansel (Erin), Margaret Mary "Peggy" Spansel, Janet Spansel Boudreaux (Ron), and Carol Frances Spansel (Denise). She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren of whom she was intensely proud: Laura Spansel Gravener, Shelly Spansel Howat, Erik, Brett, Sean, Brook, Christian, and Joel Spansel, Jeffrey Cresson, Matthew Arbo; and Jordan, Emily and Joshua Boudreaux; and by her 20 great-grandchildren: Collin, Christian, and Catherine Gravener; Luke, Michael, Nathan, and Ryan Howat; Charles, Henry, Wyatt, William, Gavin, Ryan, Anna Grace, James, and Beau Spansel; and Olivia, Gregory, Emma, and Thomas Cresson. Margaret's family would like to express special thanks to the staff at Creole Cottage, particularly Michael Scales, Elmo Ancar and Amy Marr, for their devoted care. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 11, 2022 in the J. Garic Schoen Chapel of Jacob Schoen & Son, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA 70119. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in St. Louis #3 Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Margaret's memory to Ursuline Academy https://www.uanola.org/giving/ways-to-give or The Michael J.
