Marigold McNeely Obituary

Marigold "Margot" Angela Wilson McNeely passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2024. She was born in London, England on April 11, 1926. She is survived by her loving children, Linda McNeely, Kevin McNeely (Arthemise), Kerry McNeely (Linda), Timothy McNeely, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Capt. Richard Edward McNeely; her parents Joan Holder Wilson and Leslie Bostock Wilson; and sister, Jennifer B. Wilson. Marigold was born in London, England and grew up in Somerset, England. At age 17, she enlisted in the Women's Royal Naval Service. She was stationed at Bletchley Park during WWII working as a codebreaker, a vital position decoding intercepted Nazi messages. After the war, she met her husband, Richard, on a ship returning to England after a visit to the U.S. They quickly fell in love and were married soon thereafter. The couple lived in New Orleans, Louisiana where Richard became a member of the Crescent River Port Pilots. Marigold was a founding and very active member of the Camelot Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire. In later life, she was given much recognition for her role at Bletchley Park, including a medal bestowed on her by Queen Elizabeth II. After Richard's retirement, the couple moved to Covington, Louisiana where they happily lived out their lives raising cattle, Great Danes, and horses. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mrs. McNeely may be made to Bletchley Park. https://bletchleypark.org.uk/support-us/donate-form/. All funeral services are private. E.J. Fielding Funeral Home has been entrusted with funeral arrangements. "In shadows where the whispered secrets lie- A young bold heart with courage made of steel- She walked the path where danger dared to pry- In Fields of war, her spirit chose to heal- With every coded message sent at night- The Weight of truth upon her shoulders pressed- A hidden hand that shaped the turn of fight- Yet kept her role in silence, not confessed- After the storms when all the battles ceased- She forged her life in daylights calm embrace- Her biggest battle lay ahead to thwart her peace- Trying to corral, all the Lake Vista River Rat race." I will never forget when Mrs. Mc was weeding in her garden and Kerry´s escaped baby alligator grabbed on to her finger. She was always the English Rose and for always trying to keep us in line, she has Angel Wings for sure....
