Marilyn Maloney Obituary

Marilyn Probst Maloney, much-loved New Orleans volunteer, artist, and musician, died Thursday at her Metairie home following a brief illness. Daughter of the late Cliff Probst and the late Norma Nuss Sere, she was the widow of James M. "Jim" Maloney who served as president of Cliff Probst Real Estate for many years. Marilyn was long active in community, service, and arts organizations, including Raintree Services, the Memory Lane Orchestra, Orleans Club, and Sprig and Twig Garden Club. She served as President of the Trinity Evangelical United Church of Christ for which she published the "By My Mama's House" cookbook, was named one of New Orleans' outstanding activists by the Institute of Human Understanding, and was a member of Good Shepherd UCC. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Michael and Sandra French Maloney, Denver, Colorado; daughter and son-in-law, attorney Marilyn C. Maloney and the Reverend Paul F. Longstreth, Metairie; brother and sister-in-law, Cliff and Adelaide Probst, Good Hope, Georgia; grandchildren Paul David and Kimberley Longstreth and Ashley, Christopher, and Andrew Maloney; and niece Michele Probst, Nashville, Tennessee. A funeral service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lakelawn Metairie Funeral Home, followed by interment in Metairie Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday evening 6-9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until funeral time on Monday. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Jim and Marilyn Maloney Memorial Fund at the Greater New Orleans Foundation, 1055 St. Charles Avenue, Suite 100, New Orleans 70130.
