Mark Z. Miller

1927 - 2018

Mark Zehfuss Miller, age 91, passed away on Friday, the 25th of May 2018.

He was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on the 15th of February 1927, the son of Harry August Miller and Margaret Zehfuss Miller.

Mark's family moved to Houston's Cherryhurst Park addition in 1937. After graduating from Lamar High School, his next years were spent serving in the United States Army and attending the University of Houston. In addition to being a trainer for the Cougars football team, he earned his degree in accounting. Mark put his accounting degree to work for Humble Oil & Refining with a temporary accounting position. His "temporary" job lasted nearly 40 years and Mark rose to the position of Comptroller of Exxon/Esso's global operations. Mark enjoyed his position traveling the world for Esso and came back with everything from Asian arts to tales of cannibals. After retiring, Mark remained active as an international consultant and as a long time member of Financial Executives International.

In 1950 Mark married the love of his life, Katherine Ann Sonnen. They spent many years traveling, skiing, gardening and spending time with friends and family. Mark loved to play golf and shot a hole-in-one when he was in his eighties. But more than anything, in recent years, he loved relaxing in the backyard with Katherine and enjoying the fruits of their loving gardening along with their four-legged child Rex. Mark never met a stranger and could charm a room with his smile and wit. His amazing life was filled with love, adventure and excitement.

Mark is survived by his wife Katherine and his daughter, Katherine Miller Magner, husband Robert, son Mark Sonnen Miller and wife Diana. He is also survived by granddaughter Katrina Nicole Stephenson, husband Drew and great grandchildren Barrett, Ellie Kate and Liv Stephenson. Mark was predeceased by his parents and by his beloved brothers Harry August Miller, Jr. and George William Miller.

A memorial service and celebration of Mark's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Sunday, the 3rd of June, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston. Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

The family will gather at a later date for a private inurnment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
