Mary Carruth Obituary

CARRUTH Mary Clare Lansden Carruth, died April 2, 2011 at age 90. Preceded in death by her husband, Walter Kent Carruth; her parents, Elizabeth Mount Walker Lansden and Houston Baylor Lansden; a brother, Capt. Humphrey Baylor Lansden; and two sisters, Martha Lansden Rawls and Elizabeth Lansden Frederick. Survived by two daughters: Mary Clare Carruth of Oxford, MS; and Roberta Kennon Carruth; Roberta's husband, Paul D. Taylor and granddaughter, Grace, of Baton Rouge, LA. A member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, Clare graduated LSU in 1941. Served as a Navy Wave in World War II, renovated many houses in New Orleans. Active in historic preservation, was a Colonial Dames member and chaired Hermann-Grima House Restoration Committee. Also served on the boards of St. Anna's Residence, the Orleans Club. Was elder at St. Charles Ave. Presbyterian Church. Recognized as a "Beautiful Activist". Clare moved to St. James' Place, Baton Rouge in 2007. Memorial gifts to the Butterfly Garden Fund at St. James Place; Kappa Kappa Gamma or the preservation fund of the Hermann-Grima House. Memorial Service on Saturday, April 16th, 2011 at one o'clock at the Unitarian Church of Baton Rouge, 8470 Goodwood Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806. Private Internment in Kentwood.
