Mary Beth Spencer Martin

Mary Beth Spencer Martin, passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at age 76. Loving wife of the late James Albert Martin. Beloved mother of Mary ""Beth"" Martin (Brad), Shannon Martin Robertson (Jake), Sharyn Martin Price (Joey) and the late Stephen James Martin. Born in Algiers, LA to the late James Morton Spencer and Kathlyn Cognevich Spencer. She was preceded in death by siblings George Spencer, James Spencer, Louise Foucha and Jean Tingstrom. Survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, eight nieces, four nephews and cousin and best friend Sue Allan. An honor graduate of Martin Behrman High School Class of 1959, Tulane University Class of 1963 (B.S. Medical Technology) and University of New Orleans Class of 2004 (MBA of Healthcare Management). She was a dedicated employee of West Jefferson Medical Center for over 40 years working as Lab Director, Information Technology Specialist and Director of Performance Improvement. As a child, Mary Beth was a hat model for D.H. Holmes. She was an avid reader, scholar, gardener and dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a member of multiple card clubs, in which she participated in weekly. She was the President of Welcome Neighbors and in 2004 was crowned the 32nd Queen of the Krewe of Cleopatra. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Martha's Catholic Church, where she and her devoted husband had their marriage vows blessed in 1997. She and her late husband of 41 years Jimmy, enjoyed traveling and participating in the Good Times Jamaica Dance and Barataria Fishing Clubs. Special thanks to Passages Hospice for their genuine and compassionate care to her and her family during her final days. She will also be missed by her companion Jerry ""Pepper"" Keenan. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at MOTHE FUNERAL HOMES, 2100 Westbank Expressway, Harvey, LA on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at 11:00 am. Parlors will be open on Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 10:00 pm and on Thursday morning from 9:00 am until funeral time. Interment Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
