Lila Galloway McMillan
Mrs. McMillan, 84, of Davidson, died February 25, 2009 at the Pines. She was born on August 13, 1924 in Due West, SC to the late Robert Stone Galloway, Sr. and Clara Agnew Galloway. Lila was a member of Davidson College Presbyterian Church, a graduate of Erskine College, where she later served on various boards and was athletic director for women's sports, and worked as a librarian with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School system until she retired. She was very active in several ARP Churches throughout the years. She also worked for B Altman's in New York City and Hockaday School for Girls in Dallas as a teacher.
Lila was a noble and loving mother and great friend to many of the residents and staff at the Pines Residence where she lived for 19 years. She will be greatly missed by them all.
Survivors include sons, Dick McMillan and wife Grier of Concord and Robin McMillan and wife Donna of Fort Mill, SC; 6 grandchildren, Mary Kathryn McMillan, John Mark McMillan and wife Sarah, Christopher McMillan and wife Brandie, Andrew McMillan, John D. 'Trey' McMillan, III and wife Leila, and Lila McMillan; and great-grandson, Jude. She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. McMillan; brothers, Robert 'Bob' Galloway, William 'Billy' Galloway; and sisters, Jean Bissell and Kathryn 'Kate' Galloway.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday March 1, 2009 in the Lingle Chapel at Davidson College Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robin McMillan officiating. Visitation will follow in the church parlor. Burial will take place at a later date at Due West ARP Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pines Residence Assistance Fund, 400 Avinger Lane, Davidson, NC 28036 or Erskine College Planned Giving, 2 Washington Street, Due West, SC 29639.
