Max Nathan Obituary

Prominent New Orleans Attorney, Max Nathan, Jr., passed away at his home on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the age of 86. Born in Shreveport, LA to the late Max Nathan, Sr., and Esther Arnof Nathan, Mr. Nathan was also preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Dotty Gold Nathan. He is survived by his four daughters, Nancy Nathan, Kathryn Nathan, Marcy Nathan and Courtney Nathan (Michael Singer) and his grandchildren, Caroline Steele, Emily Steele, Audrey Singer and Leo Singer. Mr. Nathan was a graduate of Byrd High School, Northwestern University, Yale Law School and Tulane Law School. A notable figure in New Orleans, Mr. Nathan was a member of Temple Sinai, ADL, Jewish Federation, Jewish Family Service, Touro Infirmary, the Jewish Endowment Foundation and Tulane Law School. Apart from his successful career, Mr. Nathan was an avid reader, with particular interest in history and Shakespeare. He enjoyed swimming in his pool, riding his bike, symphony and opera and drinking martinis. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to his caregivers including Mario Portillo, Kadeem Willis, Reina Canizales, Ivory Clark and Laurie Conner. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Tulane Law School, giving.tulane.edu or to the New Orleans Shakespeare Festival at Tulane University, neworleansshakespeare.org. Services will be held privately.
