Myron Haslam Obituary

Myron Alvin Haslam 1924 ~ 2004 "Sweetheart"  Beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, Myron Alvin Haslam, 80, died Friday, 3 September 2004, in Salt Lake City after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. It was 56 years to the day that he married Donna E. Rynearson in Salt Lake City in 1948 (later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple July 1949). He was born 29 February 1924 in Salt Lake City to William Alvin and Lorene M. (Schneider) Haslam. Myron grew up in Millcreek on his parents' farm on 700 East when that street was a two-lane dirt road. He loved animals and was an accomplished horseman and member of the 4-H Club. Attended Granite Jr. and Granite High schools, and recalled years later that "in Jr. High I used to milk three cows before I went to school and then again in the evening. I also raised a Chester White Pig." Myron served in the US Navy during World War II, stationed at Camp Farragut, Idaho, and near Olympia (Puget Sound), Washington, where he attended Cook and Master Baker's School.  From the old A.C. (Agricultural College) in Logan, he earned a B.S. in agronomy, and then worked as a finishing carpenter at the University of Utah. In 1966, he became planner/estimator in Plant Operations, from where he retired in 1986 after 36 years of service to the University. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, golfer and camper. He loved music which was truly where his heart lay. He especially enjoyed singing around the campfire with his family at Bear Lake. He had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing in the ward choir. Served as Explorer Leader, Elders' Quorum Pres., Bishop's Counselor in three bishoprics, Bishop of the Millcreek 12th Ward (1972-77) and High Councilman. He and his wife served as ordinance workers at the Jordan River Temple for eight years, 1991-98. Survived by wife Donna R. My heartfelt sympathy to the family. I will always remember the trip we all took to Hawaii, and what a great father and husband Myron was. Be well. Laura
