To Odessa's family: I just heard of Dessa's passing on Friday night. I made a note to call Pat, and was planning to go to New Orleans for the funeral. I missed it, but my prayers are with you all. She will be missed for her indomitable spirit and unique personality. I'll always remember her as the little sister who tagged along with us older girls. May the Lord grant you all the peace that passeth understanding, and know that we shall all meet again in that great Cantonment in the sky!

My dear, sweet cousin, Odessa, you were such a pleasure to be around...always so genuine in speech and actions. You were a light in a dark room...a complete joy to anyone who had the honor of knowing you. Your untimely passing from this world reminds us all how precious life is.
