Owen Fung Obituary

Owen Paul Fung, Jr was born in Lafayette, LA on September 14, 1942 to the late, Owen P. Fung, Sr and Lorena Martin Fung. Owen, a resident of Metairie, LA, passed away at the age of 80 on Thursday, November 24, 2022 with his family by his side. He attended Lafayette High School, the University of Northeastern Louisiana University and the University of Southwestern Louisiana University. He served in the Army Military Reserves with the USA hospital unit for 6 years. He was a retired "Perfume" sales representative with Charles of the Ritz/Yves Saint Laurent/Oscar De La Renta. After retiring from the fragrance industry, he worked several years with Belsco, Inc as police equipment supplier. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Karen de Launay Fung, his precious daughters, Carol (Kurt) Fryoux, Dr. Jean (Justin) Miner; his Grandchildren, Lauren, Michael, Ellie, Alyvia and Alexandra; his siblings Mary Ann (Stacy, DEC) Naylor, Glynn (Gayle) Fung, Russell (Claire) Fung, Susan (Jesse) Davis; many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews and the entire de Launay family. He is preceded in death by his loving parents and brothers Gene and John (Cecile) Fung. Owen loved his family deeply and always took care of them. He was known to many friends and family as "Brud" and the "Chinese Cajun." He loved fishing with his best friend, Steve Italiano, for over 45 years and duck hunting with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time watching sports of every kind and especially the LSU tigers. He will be missed but always remembered lovingly by all those who knew him. He was a parishioner of St. Christopher the Martyr Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Michael Fryoux, Kurt Fryoux, Justin Miner, Jesse "Beau" Davis, Charles "Chuck" Fung, and Paul Fung. Honorary Pallbearers Glynn Fung, Russell Fung, Paul de Launay, Steven de Launay, and Steve Italiano. The family wishes to thank the doctors and staff at East Jefferson Hospital and Passages Hospice Care at the Sanctuary for the compassionate care. Relatives & friends of the family are invited to attend visitation at Muhleisen Funeral Home, 2607 Williams Blvd., Kenner, LA on Friday evening visitation, December 2, 2022 from 6-9 pm with Rosary @ 7:30 pm. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 3, 2022 from 9:00-11:00 am with a Funeral Mass @ 11:00 am in the funeral home chapel by Father Raymond Igbogidi, Pastor of St. Christopher Church. Interment with military honors will be at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lighthouse for the Blind, www.lighthouselouisiana.org , St. Joseph Catholic School, Jacksonville, FL – www.stjosephcs.org and Guthrie Medical Education program www.Guthrie.org.
