Pascal Saladino Obituary

Pascal Saladino, Jr. passed away peacefully on March 15, 2018, after a brief illness, he was 84 years old. A native and lifelong resident of New Orleans, he had been a resident of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi for the last 20 years. Pascal was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 and deployed to Europe where he served one year in Germany and one year in France at the end of the Korean War. He went on to serve an additional 5 years in the Army Reserve and received an honorable discharge in 1962. In 1958, Pascal began his career as a patrolman in the New Orleans Police Department, Fifth District, in the lower 9th Ward, where he served for 10 years. He was promoted to homicide detective where he served faithfully for 24 years. He served an additional 4 years as an investigator for the New Orleans Coroner's office. "Sal" as he was known by many, was passionate about his career with the New Orleans Police Department and most proud of the notable honor of receiving "The Dunbar Award", the highest honor classified states employees can receive, who distinguish themselves through unselfish service to the citizens of Louisiana. Pascal was married to JoAnn Michelet Saladino in 1957 (deceased). He is survived by his three sons, Pascal, III; Antonio (Louise); Gino (Michelle) and his grandson, Gino Saladino, Jr. He was predeceased by his father, Pascal Saladino, Sr.; his mother Catherine Monistere Saladino; and his sister, Bena Saladino Vitrano. He is survived by his brother Angelo Saladino (Sylvia) and a host of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 10:30 am at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 411 N. Detective "Sal" worked tirelessly day in and day out to solve my brother´s murder on the Moonwalk back in January of 1981. My parents talked with him every Sunday night for months and years to follow. They grew very fond of Sal. He took so much time with them. He was a good man with the greatest work ethic. So much appreciation for all of his dedication in law enforcement, etc. May he rest in peace.

I didn't know Pascal very well, but my husband and I, as well as all the other LEOs I know, had a great admiration for his Sherlock-like abilities to solve cases. He is a legend on the NOPD and will be greatly missed.
