July 22, 1936-May 7, 2016
Pat passed away May 7, at Huntsman Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah with family present. Pat was born July 22, 1936 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. A short time later the family moved to Madison, South Dakota where he was raised and Pat completed his education until he went into the Air Force. Pat proudly served in the Korean War. After his military service Pat worked in California for a short time before moving back to Madison. He was there for a short time before he and a friend went to Iowa with a construction company. In 1958 he met Gloria Knight in Atlantic, Iowa. A year later, to the day, on September 7, 1959 he and Gloria were married. They lived a short time in Minden, Nebraska before moving on to Buena Vista, Colorado for mining. Their first son, Norman was born in Leadville, Colorado. Pat and Gloria then moved to the Denver Metro area where Pat Scott and Brad were born. The family moved to Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado where they lived for twelve years.
Pat wore many hats in life. In his younger years Pat worked summers on the farms, worked construction, drove a truck doing pick-up and delivery in Denver, and then advanced to a journeyman ironworker, where he worked for nineteen years. Many downtown Denver buildings, including The Swedish Hospital were some of his accomplishments. Pat and Gloria moved to Elko, Nevada in 1987. Pat worked for a short time as an ironworker for T.I.C., and also really enjoyed driving a pilot car. Due to an eye disease he had to retire. He and Gloria owned and operated the Strang's Mobile Home Court from 1998 to 2015. Many of their renters are acknowledged as extended family.
Pat was preceded in death by his parents George and Ruth Strang, brother and sister-in-law Frank and Goldie Strand, daughter-in-law Michaelle Strang, and several uncles, and cousins. Pat is survived by his wife Gloria Strang, Elko, Nevada; sons Norman (Tina) of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado and their children Cassandra and Dane O'Brien and Justen Strang; Patrick Scott (Kim) of Eagle Lake, Florida and their children Erik Tonko and Travis Strang; Brad (Fiancé, Rhonda Curran) Strang of Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado and his children Mitchal and Brandon Strang; one great-grand daughter Brook Tomko; siblings Ed (Ruth) Strang of Spokane, Washington; Dan (Jan) Strang of Valley Falls, Kansas; Vernon (Kelly) Strang of Decatur, Arkansas; Donald (Pellie) Strang of West Pueblo, Colorado; and eight nephews and five nieces.
Pat was an avid NASCAR fan and he and his brothers Dan, Vern and Donnie had many wagers and lively conversations going during the season. For Pat getting together with family was always a special time and he never met a stranger. He could always strike up a conversation with anyone and extra time was always needed when going somewhere for the time spent conversing with those around him. You could say Pat had the "gift" of gab.
Many heartfelt "Thanks" to Dr. David Hogel and his nurse Tammy; all the nursing staff at NNR hospital and Huntsman Hospital; and Dr. Debra Stevens and her nurse Martie Becker.
A memorial service will be held on Friday May 20, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Baptist Church, 577 Walnut, Elko, Nevada with a reception to follow.
