Paul Connick Obituary

Paul David Connick, Sr. entered into eternal life on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the age of 82. During his long and productive life, he touched numerous lives in a positive way. He will be greatly missed and leaves behind many family members dedicated to carrying on his cherished legacy. Paul was the devoted husband of Ann Elizabeth (Betty) Jenniskens Connick for sixty-two years, beloved father of Carmel Hebert (Howard "Tookie"), Paul, Jr. (Giselle), James "Dutch" (Jean), Edward (Patricia), Cynthia Varisco (Thomas), William Peter (Mary Belle), Patrick (Rhonda), and Ann Stansberry (Lawrence). He was also the doting grandfather to twenty-six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James P. Connick, Sr. and two brothers, James and John Connick. He is survived by his siblings, Harry Sr., Mary daRoza, William, Jesse Whelan and Michael. Paul was steadfast in his dedication to his Catholic faith, his family, and service to those less fortunate. He was a member of the Unites States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Korean War. A dedicated public servant, he acted as political advisor to five Jefferson Parish presidents and served several years as Jefferson Parish's Director of Civil Defense. As a board member of St. Margaret's Daughters Foundation, he worked tirelessly to improve the lives of St. Margaret's nursing home residents. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of St. Margaret's Daughters for their love and care as well as the incredible staff of East Jefferson General Hospital who cared for him during his final days. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9am to noon at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 4640 Canal Street, with the funeral mass immediately following. Interment will be in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Margaret's Foundation, 3525 Bienville Street, New Orleans, La. Paul Connick Sr.,as I remember,New Orleans born, started coming to the Westbank unincorporated area (Marrero,Harvey,Amesville) in the late 40's. Now in those days people from New Orleans did'nt come to the Westbank, especially the unincorporated areas---- all farms and swamp. What brought him was a pretty green eyed dutch girl named Elizabeth Jenniskens. Eventually they were married, settled in Marrero and had a large family.Paul, through the years has been a big plus for the Westbank. Now Paul and Betty's children are caring the torch .I offer my sympathy to the family. I love you Betty and the Connick family!!!
