Philip Broadbridge Obituary

Philip 'Phil" George Broadbridge, 90 of Metairie, Louisiana, entered Eternal Peace on Monday, April 5th, 2021. Beloved husband of Sylvia Weibelt Broadbridge of 64 years. Father of David P. Broadbridge and wife, Melanie of Covington, LA. Eric C. Broadbridge and wife, Mary of Metairie, LA. Son of the late George H. Broadbridge and Anna Neff Broadbridge. Brother of Naomi B. Dietz and the late Edwin J. Broadbridge and Wesley E. Broadbridge. Survived by five Grand Children, Kimberly B. Navarrete and husband Ben Navarrete, Susan B. Agee and husband Randal Agee, Anna B. Weckesser and husband Devin Weckesser, Kevin E. Broadbridge and Laura E. Broadbridge. A native of New Orleans and a resident of Metairie, LA since 1963. Phil grew up in the Upper 9th Ward of New Orleans and attended F. T. Nicholls High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS. Pickings DD-685 Destroyer during the Korean War. After an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1954 Phil returned to New Orleans where he met and married the love of his life, Sylvia J. Weibelt. Phil & Sylvia were married at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in New Orleans in 1956. Phil started his career as a plastic fabricator at Plastics Production Company shortly before joining the Navy. Returning to civilian life after the Navy he began work at Industrial Electric, Inc., a sign company, and eventually was named manager of the Plastics Division. Phil left Industrial Electric, began his own business in 1980 and eventually formed his own company called Phil's Custom Workshop. His shop was located in Kenner, LA. Phil was a Master Fabricator with acrylic plastic. He continued to work at his shop until the age of 89. Phil was devout Christian and an active member of Atonement Lutheran Church in Metairie since 1963. Over the years he has built and provided many items for the Church which are still in use today. He loved the outdoors and on many weekends you would find him spending time with his family and grandkids, crabbing with his homemade knitted crab nets, riding his folding boat in Lake Pontchartrain or flying his many kites and dropping parachutes. Phil also enjoyed indoor activities such as playing Dominos with the neighbors, making wine with Japanese Plums and watching vintage movies with his wife. He owned every tool you could imagine and could fix anything. He loved the challenge of building and repairing things and would help just about anyone who needed assistance. Many also know Phil as "Pops" as his two sons gave him this nickname in their teen years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Atonement Lutheran Church, 6500 Riverside Drive, Metairie, LA 70003. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 8, 2021, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70001, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Please note that due to the current State restrictions a face cover must be worn. Hi this is Wes Garner just letting you know my dad loved getting together with Phil and Sylvia as a connection to his brother Bob Garner. Bob's wife Clara passed last week. Phil brought us a bunny lamp made out of plastic back in the 50's which guided us in the night for as long as I can remember. I remember meeting him many years later and enjoying hi love for.his craft.
He was a good man and very proud of his son's.
Love to all of you
