Philip Loria Obituary

LORIA Philip Ronald Loria, MD passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband of Margaret Ott ("Lyn") Loria. Father of Philip R. Loria, Jr., MD, Carolyn Pitalo and Diane Rose, MD. Grandfather of Melissa Loria, Megan Loria, Jimmy Brown, Caroline Brown, Allyson Pitalo and Caroline Pitalo. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Frank Leo Loria and his brother, Paul (Buddy) Loria. Dr. Loria graduated from New Orleans Academy, Tulane University and Tulane University Medical School. He practiced Dermatology for over 50 years. His distinguished career was highlighted by his initial unveiling by electron microscopy of elastic tissue basis for the disease, Pseudoxanthoma elasticum. He was the first to publish tattoo removal by dermabrasion. He discovered the treatment for Mycobacterium marinum, which caused swimming pool granuloma. Keeping up with new medical advancements, he was a pioneer in the city with Lasers. He developed the Laser Minipeel TM, which is a procedure for diminishing fine lines, wrinkles and lax skin. He was a Civil Surgeon for the Department of Immigration and was a consultant for Worker's Compensation. He was a member of many medical societies, being an Associate of the American Physicians and Surgeons. He was associate professors at both LSU and Tulane Medical Schools. Dr. Loria was a member of the New Orleans Country Club, Bienville Club and several carnival organizations. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd., on Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at 10:30 AM. Visitation to follow until 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70124 or charity of your choice. Interment will be private.
