Robert Melvin Braiwick Sr.

BRAIWICK Robert Melvin Braiwick, Sr. passed away on Sunday, May 2, 2010 at his home in Mande-ville, LA at the age of 88. He was born December 9, 1921 in Seattle, Washington, and he resided in New Orleans, LA for 60 years before moving to Mandeville in 2007. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Brue Braiwick and their five children: Melanie Saunders and her husband Larry of Mandeville, LA., Theresa (Tery) Scalco and her husband Steven of Metairie, Robert Braiwick, Jr. and his wife Cindy of Metairie, Arthur Braiwick and John Christian Brai-wick of Mandeville, LA. He was the devoted grandfather of eleven grandchildren: Andrea Saunders Basili of Ariccia, Italy, Bret Saunders of Dallas, TX, Melissa Chandler of Madisonville, LA, Bobby Braiwick, III, Christian Michael Braiwick, Arthur Brai-wick, and Denise Braiwick Dorr of Mande-ville, LA, Daniel Braiwick and Michelle Braiwick Pittfield of Robert, LA, Matthew Scalco of Austin, TX, and Jeffery Scalco of Metairie, LA; and seven great-grandchildren: Lorenzo and Sara Basili, Roderick III and Ben Chandler, Parker Grace Braiwick, Andrew Dorr and Blake Saunders. He is the son of the late Christian G. and Clara Sande Braiwick of San Pedro, CA. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Braiwick of Torrance, CA. Mr. Braiwick was a U.S. Army Lieutenant and Veteran of World War II. He held management positions with Winn-Dixie and Zuppardo's Super Markets. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1501 W. Causeway Approach, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Friday, May 7, 2010 at 12:00 noon. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 am until service time. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Abbey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, masses or donations to Saint Joseph Abbey, 75376 River Road, Saint Benedict, LA 70457, would be appreciated.
