Robert Jacques Obituary

JACQUES Attorney Robert Thomas Jacques, Jr., of Lake Charles died April 29, 2009 in Houston, Texas. He was 69. Born in New Orleans, he graduated in 1958 from Jesuit High School, where he lettered two years as a blocking back for the Blue Jay's football team. In 1960, he shipped out as a United States Merchant Marine and was a member of the SIU Seafarers Union. Mr. Jacques graduated from LSU in 1962, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. A 1965 graduate of Loyola University School of Law, he served as an elected officer of the Loyola Student Council and editor of The Legal Rag and was a member of the Loyola Law School Moot Court as well as the Blue Key Honorary Society of Loyola. He was a member of the Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. Mr. Jacques served as a Law Clerk for the Third Circuit Court of Appeal from 1965 to 1966, and was City Prosecutor for the City of Lake Charles. A member of the Trial Lawyers' Association, Southwest Louisiana Bar Association, and the Louisiana Bar Association, he began private practice in Lake Charles, Louisiana with J. Clem Drewett. Mr. Jacques represented and was a strong advocate for the rights of injured workers since 1980. An avid fisherman and hunter, he resided at Big Lake where he spent most evenings on his pier, often playing host to visiting fishermen, the favorite of which was his grandson, Hunter. He also was a wonderful cook, serving many fabulous meals to his family, and a fantastic gardener. Bob had an adventurous spirit which took him traveling around the world. Mr. Jacques is survived by his wife, Gernine Mailhes Jacques of Lake Charles; son Sean G. Jacques and wife Mary Ann of Lake Charles; daughter, Holly Turner and husband Michael of Austin; grandson, Andrew "Hunter" Jacques of Lake Charles; brother, Kenneth W. Jacques and wife Andreé of New Orleans; sister, Jacquelyn Sang and husband Jim of Charleston, SC; and cousins, Father E.J. Jacques, SJ of New Orleans and Renee Jacques of New Orleans. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert T. Jacques, Sr., and his mother Mabel Hobbs Jacques. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 02, 2009 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Father Aubrey Guilbeau will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation Friday will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Saturday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Kenneth W. Jacques, Lonnie LeJeune, Peyton Covington, Sam L. Lowery, Andy Johnson IV, and Mark Zimmerman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Development Office, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX, 77210. Words of comfort to the family may be expressed at www.johnsonfuneralhome.net.
