Robert Aldrich Meyer, age 91, a 46-year resident of Slidell, LA, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, October 2, 2021, attended by his daughters. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Rodrigue, and Barbara (Babbi) Meyer, and his grandson, Joseph Aldrich Elmerick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aldrich Herman Meyer and Emma Margaret Pienert Meyer, and by his beloved wife of fifty years, Betty Joyce Henderson Meyer. Mr. Meyer was born in 1930 in Fitchburg, MA. He held degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration, after attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Worcester, MA and Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. During his university days, he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. Following his graduation from university, he joined the U.S. Navy in 1955, serving on active duty as a bombardier/navigator, and then later in the U.S. Naval Reserves. He retired from the Navy in 1980 with the rank of Commander. After completing his active-duty service, Mr. Meyer joined what was then known as Martin Marietta, first in Orlando, FL, and then worked for two years stationed on Kwajalein Island, one of the Marshall Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Mr. Meyer returned to Orlando, FL, then transferred to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration Michoud Assembly Facility in New Orleans East. He retired from Lockheed-Martin after forty years of service. During his years in Slidell, Mr. Meyer was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He was also a 46-year member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and a long-time member of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA). Mr. Meyer enjoyed golfing, boating, and time spent with his family. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at Honaker Funeral Home, 1751 Gause Blvd. West, Slidell, LA 70460. Friends may also visit at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, beginning at 9:00am until service time at 10:00 am. Interment with military honors will be held at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery, 34888 Grantham College Drive, Slidell, LA 70460 on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 11:00am.
