Robert T. Neal Jr.

Robert "Whimpy" T. Neal Jr. passed away Friday morning October 20, 2023 at the young age of 90, just 3 weeks shy of his 91st birthday. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Violet H. Neal, who preceded him in death several years ago. Born and raised in the bayous of New Orleans, Whimpy was a true swamp loving coon-ass. He enjoyed hunting and trapping of any kind, Waffle House coffee, showing off his knife collection, and telling stories. When you lead a life as colorful as Whimpy's, you have audience worthy stories to share, and repeatedly, so the legend sticks. Whimpy was educated by the outdoors and was a Jack of all trades. Whether or not he was a master of any, remains subjective. He was a giant of a man with a giant personality and a poorly concealed soft-heart. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Thelma and Robert Neal Sr., brother Louis Neal, sister Naomi Cliburn, and sister Marilyn Faciane. Also tragically preceded in death by his infant daughter, Sharon Neal and great-great-grandson, Braxton Eastland. Whimpy is survived by 2 daughters, Karen Buse and Julie Neal plus 1 bonus daughter and long-time family friend, Denise Burtchaell. He was also blessed with 4 grandchildren, Elizabeth Williams (Stephen), Sharon Weaver (Lucas), Cayenne Neal, and David Amador. Whimpy's family continued to grow with 10 great-grandchildren, Alexis Meadows (Tyler), Chad Buse, Heather Baker, Dylan Babcock, Samantha Babcock, Brandon Williams (Jenna), Hunter Hicks, Jarome Banks, Antonio (Tre) Harry III, Kyan Harry. Unfortunately his 6 surviving great-great-grandchildren, Emmalyn, Brantley, Brooklynn, Maddilynn, Asher and Matthew, won't get to learn from his "Pearls of Wisdom" that he was always happy to share with everyone, such as "Just tap on it", but make no mistake, the rest of us will share his advice and stories with them. Well maybe not all of them. Whimpy is also survived by countless nieces and nephews, some of whom might actually be related. The family asks that you help honor Whimpy by telling stories with friends (or strangers), and responding to anyone who asks how you are with "Bodacious". Family and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass at 1:00 pm, on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124.
