Ruby Batiste Obituary

BATISTE Ruby L. Batiste, 74, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on June 2. Mrs. Batiste, the wife of longtime Olympia Brass Band trumpeter Milton J. Batiste, was born on July 14, 1934 in Natchez, Miss., to J.B. Matthews and Mary Lucille Hayes. Mrs. Batiste is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters, Lisa and Virginia Hayes. She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Richard J. Matthews, a special daughter Deidre (Corey) Galloway, daughter-in-law Pamela C. Matthews, five sisters: LaDell (Norbert) Carroll, Sue (Horace) Oatis, Mary Ann (Willie) Carradine, Lillie Mae Givens and Glenda Faye Ferguson; two brothers: James and Maurice Hayes; four sisters-in-law Mary Knapper, Mercedes Torregano, Muriel Jackson, Merlin (Charles) Macklin, and Martha Cade; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Relatives, friends, employees of Tulane Medical Center, LSU Medical Center, and Davita Dialysis Center are invited to attend services on Fri., June 6. Visitation begins at 8 a.m., services at 10 a.m. at Charbonnet-Labat funeral home, 1615 St. Philip St.
