Ruby Elizabeth Sharp "Beth, Granny" Weber obituary

Ruby Weber Obituary

Ruby Elizabeth ("Beth" or "Granny") Sharp Weber died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, November 8, 2015, in her home in Mandeville, LA, surrounded by her family. She was 89 years old and kept her wry sense of humor and positive attitude until the very end. She was born on January 31, 1926, in New Orleans and attended P.A. Capdau Elementary School where she met the man that was to be her husband, Stan Weber. Later, she attended Eleanor McMain Secondary School and St. Mary's Dominican High School before going to LSU and joining Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. As a child, she enjoyed penny parties. Schoolchildren would go to a friend's house on Saturdays during the Great Depression and have soft drinks, cookies, and candies costing a penny each for entertainment. One summer while her father was working as a civil engineer in central Louisiana on the Red River project, Beth made herself comfortable on a box of explosives that later led to her teenage nickname, "Dynamite". She fondly remembered living on Franklin Avenue where her parents never locked the doors or windows, and it was safe to walk down the street at night to youth group at church. On Christmas Eve, 1944, she took pity on several soldiers who were waiting at the corner bus stop for a ride into town. Her youth group was going Christmas caroling so she invited them along. Then realizing that it may have appeared inappropriate, she grabbed Stan Weber away from his date for the night to escort her. Later that evening, they attended a midnight mass, fell in love, and stayed together ever since. Stan joked that after that night, he never went to another midnight mass! After the war ended in August, 1945, they married in September '45, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with family. In 1960, Beth became a school teacher and a real estate agent to put her children through private school. She helped establish and grow Stan Weber and Associates, Inc. Realtors (1966-1983) into one of the largest real estate firms in the South. She played the piano, had a beautiful voice, and enjoyed singing in the Gentilly Presbyterian and Parkway Presbyterian Church choirs. Beth and Stan enjoyed many years traveling around the world together. Her family was always excited to hear about their adventures upon their return. Beth was preceded in death by her parents, John Henry Dewey Sharp and Pearl Sartor Sharp. Beth has one daughter, Pamela Weber Pearce (Rex) who has two sons: Mark and Ryan. She has one son, Skip Weber (Nancy) who has two children; Scott Weber (Kristen), Stacy Weber Houston (Brent), and three stepchildren; Ricardo Vita (Jill), Jason Vita (Sheila), Kristi Vita Rhodes (Jack), as well as nine great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Michael J. Fox's Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org). A visitation will be at St. Timothy on the Northshore United Methodist Church in Mandeville at 10 am on Saturday, November 14, 2015. A memorial service will follow at 11 am.

Dear Mr. Stan and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of you and Mrs. Beth from being neighbors on Mulberry Street. Mrs. Beth was a beautiful "LADY" with style and grace. She was always friendly and greeted me with kind words. She loved her family and was most proud of her children and grand-children. I enjoyed reading the obit.....a long, full life! I know she will be missed. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers
May God bless you and keep you,
Kathleen Wendel
