Shirley Durand Obituary

DURAND Shirley Mae Aiple Durand passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at Chateau De Notre Dame Hospice at the age of 90. She was the daughter of the late John J. Aiple and Gertrude Reiss Aiple. She was the wife of the late Eldon John Durand for over 67 years. She was the mother of the late Marcia Caparotta (husband Joseph), Cheryl Durand Dupont (husband Robert) and Robert John Durand (wife Joan). She is also survived by her loving and devoted sister-in-law Marjorie Durand, daughter-in-law Jane Caparotta, grandchildren Michael (wife Alita) Caparotta, Kevin (wife Kim) Caparotta, Stephen (wife Christy) Caparotta, Dana (husband Michael Andre) Dupont, Andrew Dupont, William (wife Amber) Van Brunt IV and David Van Brunt. She was the great-grandmother of David, Eva, Samuel and Olivia Caparotta. She was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church since 1968. The family is also thankful for the many wonderful caregivers who enriched and enhanced Shirley's life in recent years. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother whose family was her highest priority and greatest source of pride. Her friends were special to her, especially her long-time dear friends Joe Foret and Catherine Hickman. She taught us much, gave us more and left us all better people. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass in the Chapel of LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 6, 2012. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the New Orleans Children's Chorus.
