Shirley Hoffman Duteil

Shirley Hoffman Duteil, 95, passed away on March 4, 2024 in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi. Mrs. Duteil was born & raised in New Orleans, LA. She moved to Bay St. Louis, MS in 1994. After 8 years in Mobile, AL following Hurricane Katrina, she returned to "The Bay" in 2013. Mrs. Duteil was a graduate of St. Joseph Academy in New Orleans. She was a dedicated wife and mother. In her later years she and her husband were active volunteers and licensed tour guides. Shirley was a resident of Dunbar Village. She was known as "The Queen," wore a crown frequently, and had mastered the Queen's wave. She loved parades and the Nereids Ball & turned everything she could into a "gala." Mrs. Duteil was married to Joseph B. Duteil Jr. for 68 years until his passing in 2019. She is the mother of Gail Ann DeVasConCellos (Harry) of Bay St. Louis, MS and the late Dana Lyn Purdy (James) of Slidell. She is survived by 6 grandchildren, Jeffery J. DeVasConCellos (Mary) of Gulf Breeze, FL; Brian E. DeVasConCellos (Elizabeth) of Spring Lake, MI; Paul D. DeVasConCellos (Danielle) of Parker, CO; Rachel M. Reis (Steve) of Gulf Breeze, FL; Adam P. Purdy (Tracy) of Gulf Breeze, FL; Jason J. Purdy (Lauren) of Jacksonville, FL & 15 great grandchildren. Carol Mitchell was a close and devoted friend. She was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel H. Hoffman Sr. and Frances Falk Hoffman; her husband, Joseph B. Duteil Jr.; daughter Dana; as well as 3 sisters and a brother. At 2:00 PM CST on Friday, March 15 Catholic Mass will be celebrated at St. Clare Church in Waveland, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00-2:00.Mrs. Duteil will be laid to rest in a private ceremony next to her husband. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Clare.
