Shirley Taylor was a unique school leader, willing to share, mentor, and help anyone who asked her. As a young principal I could trust Ms. Taylor to tell me how to avoid trouble. Later, she congratulated me on my promotion when I left the principalship. At my first meeting as an Area Superintendent, I admired a beautiful bracelet that she was wearing. She took it off and gave it to me, insisting that she wanted to give me a gift for my new job. She was priceless. I treasure that bracelet more today.

You were an exemplary woman who did not mind showing tough love to your students if need be. In retrospect, it was that tough love at times that allowed you to get the best from your students and staff that you were in charge of. I would like to say to the family that Mrs. Taylor was very much loved and admired and we will miss her dearly. Take comfort family that she made a difference and did not live her life in vain. RIP Mrs. Taylor, for you were an example for many to follow!!!!

My favorite principal is gone. I love this lady so much. My favorite memory is when she gets on top of the building with her bonokerlers and see who is cutting class. If I had to start high school over again and Ms. Shirley Taylor was the principal I will go back. Now she doesn't need no bonokerlers. Rest on my favorite principal no more suffering you fought till you couldn't fight anymore.

This woman of god was a saint in her own right. It is because of her that I am the woman I am today. Mrs. Taylor was one of a kind. An onion that not many got to see the layers fall but I was blessed to love her and see her outside the walls of Lawless. Her telling me she's proud of me was a very important moment in my adult life because she pushed me past my life experiences and into greatness. Thank you Mrs. Taylor for being that strong role model that I needed when I was down on myself. I love you and will forever miss you. Alfred Lawless Class of 1996

Taylor and Richardson family, you have my deepest sympathy and prayers. Mrs. Taylor was one of the best school site administrators ever. It was a great learning experience to work under her leadership. She knew how to delegate and lead. Mrs. Shirley Taylor was known for going the extra mile to make sure her students had access to everything they needed to succeed. The Lower Nine educational community has lost a giant. Sleep on, take your rest. Love and blessings.
