Soliman Soliman Obituary

Dr. Soliman Y. Soliman, aged 77, passed away on August 12, 2021 after a brief illness. He was born in Cairo, Egypt on June 15, 1944. Dr. Soliman excelled in academic pursuits, earning his BBA in Accounting from Cairo University and his MBA from the American University in Cairo. During his studies, he translated AP stories for an Egyptian newspaper, and worked for the Liberian and American Embassies. In 1974 Dr. Soliman emigrated to the United States with his first wife, Alice Soliman, and their young family. He pursued an MS in Accounting at Texas A&M in College Station, TX followed by a PhD in Managerial Accounting from the University of Georgia. In 1979 they moved to New Orleans, and Dr. Soliman joined the faculty at the A.B Freeman School of Business at Tulane University. He was promoted to Associate Professor and taught Managerial Accounting to both undergraduate and graduate students until he retired in 2014. Dr. Soliman also helped develop and taught in the Executive MBA program. He was a Certified Public Accountant and Certified Management Accountant. In addition to his work at Tulane, he consulted for several non-profits and small businesses in New Orleans. Late in his career Dr. Soliman taught a handful of business intensive courses overseas in Africa and Asia. Dr. Soliman was remarried in 2007 to Nancy J. Lally. He was a lover of animals, and enjoyed attending live music with his wife. He particularly enjoyed hearing Ellis Marsalis play his annual concert for incoming freshmen at Tulane University. He is survived by his wife Nancy J. Lally, his son Soheil (Dr. Anna Meyer), daughter Sally (Joshua Bender), grandsons Elias and Micah Soliman and granddaughters Elise and Sabrina Bender, and additional relatives in Egypt. He is predeceased by his parents Labiba and Youssef Soliman, and his older sister. Private services will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Lighthouse For The Blind.
