Sybil Kline Obituary

Sybil Friedberg Kline, 92, of New Orleans, passed away on January 28, 2024. Sybil was born to Harry and Etta Friedberg in New Orleans. In 1954 Sybil married Theodore (Ted) Kline and went on to have two children, Leonard and Leslie. Sybil was predeceased by her husband Ted and later her companion, Jack Hudson. She is survived by son Leonard (& Kyehwa); daughter Leslie (& Bill); granddaughters Rebecca & Hannah Rau (John Borkowski, fiancé). Sybil Kline marched to the beat of her own drum. She was never afraid to stand up in front of a crowd to dance, cheer, or tell a joke. While she had a gift for bringing people together, her biggest passion in life was her garden, a symphony of color. She always found awe in nature. She was creative, expressive, and knew how to entertain herself and those around her. Everyone who knew Sybil commented on her kindness and that she was always the life of the party. She was the ultimate caregiver and consistently cared for those around her before herself. She was a certifiable foodie, made the best brisket in town, and was always the first to try the newest restaurant. She embodied the New Orleans saying, "Let's eat lunch and talk about dinner." She remained forever 29 years-old to survive until she was 29 backwards. Sybil was a member of Congregation Gates of Prayer, and previously Touro Synagogue, and Beth Israel. She had been active in Touro's Sisterhood, National Council of Jewish Women, and Master Gardeners. In addition to gardening, she enjoyed crafting, cooking, baking, sewing, mahjongg, reading, entertaining, dancing, sailing, and costuming. The family appreciates the care given by Poydras Home. Private graveside services were held January 30. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Museum of the Southern Jewish Experience (msje.org) or The NOLA Tree Project (nolatreeproject.org).
