Thomas Seale Obituary

Thomas W. Seale, Jr. passed peacefully from complications of a CVA on November 7, 2021, at the Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital, Georgetown, South Carolina at the age of 71. He was a long-time resident of New Orleans, before returning to Georgetown, the place of his birth. He was born February 21, 1950, the son of Thomas W. Seale, Sr., and Beulah Meeks Seale. Tom graduated from Winyah High School in 1966, Georgetown, at the age of 16, and then went to the University of South Carolina for three years. From there he transferred to Loyola University (New Orleans), where he completed his undergraduate degree in accounting. He then completed two master's degrees at LSU, receiving both an MBA and MPA. His professional career included working for a CPA firm, being comptroller in HCA hospitals in Baton Rouge and Houston, CFO for the Department of Pediatrics at LSUMC, and Property Manager & Manager of Maison DuBois Bed & Breakfast, New Orleans. His 'oh-so-special' talents began to shine early in his life. Tom was an Eagle Scout and received the Eagle Scout of America Award, at age 16. As a part of his being honored as Eagle Scout of America, he also presented in person a scout report to the United Nations General Assembly. He was honored with a parade in his hometown, with Luci Baines Johnson, the daughter of President Lyndon Baines Johnson, presiding. His athletic prowess was rewarded with a diving scholarship to the University of South Carolina. Over the years his love of sports continued to be important. He was an excellent swimmer and enjoyed the ski slopes with many of his friends. He also became a bowler, and his team won a regional trophy. He loved to entertain. His meals and crawfish boils are legendary. Over the years, Tom proved to be a valuable friend to many, often opening his home to those needing a place to stay while pursuing educational aspirations, and sometimes just because some may have been in a temporary moment of need. He loved and was loved by all who knew him. Tom is predeceased by his parents and brother, Edward. Survivors include his sister, Sandra Seale Winslow of Georgetown, his nephew Glynn Allen Winslow (Tiffany) great-nephews, Jakob, Luke, and Will, also of Georgetown, and Gary Q. Peck, MD, his partner (1970-1990) and continued friend of many more years. There are several close friends who were like family and intimately involved in Tom's care at the end of his life. They are Dian Denny, MD, Robb Sundin, RN, MN, and Kirby Green, MD.

I remember Tom from Pediatrics. He was warm and witty and friendly and a wonderful coworker. I missed him when he left the department. I offer my sympathy to his family and friends.

Tom was a wonderful neighbor for many years. We are sad to hear of his passing- the neighborhood hasn't been the same since he left Maison du Bois. May Tom rest in peace.
