Travis Green Obituary
Travis Green, age 82 years, died Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at his Jackson, MS home. He was born in Emerson, AR to Nobie Foster Green and Luther Green. He had three siblings: Cilo Green May, Huber Green and Aubrey Green. He enlisted in the National Guard and was activated in the army in 1941. He served as a Staff Sargaent in North Africa and Italy with the 3rd Army, 91st Infantry Division. He served onverseas in a forward area until the end of World War II. He was awarded several medals including the Bronze Star. Before leaving the service, he obtained the rank of Captain. After leaving the army, he entered South State in Magnolia, Arkansas on a full basketball scholarship. There he played starting guard. In 1959, Travis married Janet Talbot Nuzum, a registered nurse, and they had two children: Jennifer ""Gigi'' Welsh and Travis L. Green and was also the stepfather of Janet's three children: Robert Nuzum, Cathy Nuzum and Nancy Nuzum Hodgins. He worked for Hughes Tool Company and retired after twenty-nine years and became a consultant for Hildebrand and Amoco Oil Companies. ""Papa'' as Travis has been known to his children and grandchildren all for the last twenty-six years, loved to fish, hunt and play golf. He particularly enjoyed fishing for white perch on Eagle Lake and traveling to Mexico each year to hunt for white wing dove. His many years of playing golf early on with many young friends and later on with the ""Coots'' and ""Super Coots'' at the Colonial Country Club as he got older, gave him much joy. The wisdom, guidance and support that he gave to everyone else who knew him gave them much joy as well. Survivors include: his wife of 44 years, Mrs. Janet Talbot Green of Jackson, MS; his sister, Mrs. Clio May of Magnolia, AR; his nephew, Mr. Derol May and his wife, Ann May and their children: a nephew, Johnnie Ray Green and his wife, Margie Green and their son, Del Ray Green of Magnolia, AR, a niece, Mrs. Pat Gunter and her husband, Fred Gunter and their children; his stepson, Robert W. Nuzum of New Orleans, LA; his step-daughters: Cathy Nuzum of Lafayette, LA and Nancy L. Hodgins of Mandeville, LA; his daughter, Jennifer ""Gigi'' Welsh of Jackson, MS; his son, Travis L. Green of Houston, TX; and his nine grandchildren: Taylor, Talbot and Travis Theunissen, Jacqueline, Christopher and Catherine Hodgins and Victor, Morgan and Colin Welsh. Visitation is 12:30 p.m. today and the service begins at 2:00 p.m. at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home, Jackson, MS. The burial is at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 29, 2004 in St. Francis de Saleds Cemetery #2, Houma, LA. Arrangements by WRIGHT & FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME, Jackson, MS.
