Webster Veade Obituary

Webster J. Veade, Sr. passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 3, 2015, at the age of 84. Webster was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Anna Marie Gauthier of Cottonport, Avoyelles Parish, LA. Father of Webster J. Veade, Jr. (Mary Ann), Danny J. Veade (Gwen) and Brian T. Veade (Norma). Proud Grandfather of Thomas Veade, Christine Veade Kasper (Jacob), Stephanie Veade Jimenez (Eddie), Elizabeth Veade, Rebecca Veade Blalock Hunnicutt (Mike), Jennifer Veade Sweeny (George), Amanda Veade Tucker (Ricky), Ashley Veade and Katey Veade. He was Great-grandfather of Bella Blalock, Dominic Kasper and Joshua Kasper. Webster was born in Plaucheville, Avoyelles Parish, LA January 1931 to Linton Veade and Amy Rabalais Veade. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and Air Force as a Sgt. in the European Theatre after World War II as a special interpreter in France. Webster was responsible for arranging materials acquisition for construction of military installations in France and Germany from the local residents for Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces (SHAEF), and had fond memories of the people he met overseas and his military comrades he still kept in touch with after 60 years even in the final days before his passing. Webster was active in American Legion Post 267 on River Road, Jefferson, LA. for which he served as past Post Adjutant of the group. He was a third degree (3rd) Knight in the local Knights of Columbus Council 3854 at St. Rita Church in Harahan, LA. He helped build the KC Hall on Oak Street in Harahan, LA. Webster also was the Committee Chairman for several years for Boy Scout Troop 115 at St. Rita in Harahan, LA. From 1948 to early 1965 he worked for Hogan Bros. and Shamrock Construction, rising to the position of Superintendant. In early 1965, with his wife Anna, he started his own company and Webster ran a successful General Contracting firm. He and Anna were local real estate developers and builders. Webster was an inventor, craftsman, draftsman, builder and avid gardener (from his days growing up on a farm). He was always a hard worker and instilled that in his sons. Webster was also preceded in death by his parents Linton Veade and Amy Rabalais Veade; older sisters Cora Lee Veade Gauthier (Roy) and Romaine Veade Lachney (Hamilton) who both called him "Brud"; as well as his paternal grandparents Thomas Veade (Vide) and Alice Dufour Veade and his maternal grandparents Jules and Florida Rabalais, being all of Avoyelles Parish, LA. His family will always treasure wonderful memories of him including his great French Louisiana accent and willingness to help his family. Now he is in heaven with his ANNA MARIE, his parents and sisters. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum. I Have been Mr.Veade's mail carrier for 15 or more years but consider him a friend. We chatted often and he gave me gardening advice. We exchanged oranges for lemons and i always came out ahead with canned pears or fresh figs and black berries thanks to his generosity. We talked about his wife and I could tell how well he cared for her to her very last day .He was also very happy these last few years sharing his time with Miss Christine.I would say " how are you doing to today" and he would always say he couldn't be any better.I will miss him very much but I am so happy I got to know such a lovely man .My sympathy and prayers go to his family and friends.

My condolences to the family. May the God of comfort strength you in these difficult times.

Webster Veade Sr. denotes a few outstanding memories that will reside with my intellect and within my heart that are noteworthy. First and foremost he is a man of utmost integrity and love of his family, fellow man, and country. His work ethics and productivity were unparalled in this age when many people wish to avoid hard work and the stamina and discipline it requires. In essence he is a great man and he will always leave that memory with me. This is truly painful for Mary Ann, Webster, Danny, and Brian and the entire family structure. I speak of Webster Sr. in the present because once life is given by God it is forever. He has lived this phase of life in a way that appears to be remarkable in many respects and his new phase of everlasting life which began on July 3rd has already begun. We pray that our lives may resemble his so we also will see him and be with him in our next phase of life.
God Bless all. Brian Ducote

Dear Webster Jr., Danny, Brian, and your loved ones: We extend our condolences on the death of Webster Sr., our beloved friend for many years. We treasured his friendship and his professional services. His warm and sincere personality and him speaking in his deep voice with a Louisiana French accent was a pleasure to experience.
