Wilbert Tunson

1937 - 2022

Wilbert Tunson was called to be with the Lord on Friday, March 4, 2022 at his residence in Stafford, Texas. He was born on October 8, 1937 at Charity Hospital New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Taylor Tunson and Corrine Garrison. Wilbert married Janet Crockem on January 23, 1967 and to this union they had one daughter Edna Corrine "Tammy" Tunson Jackson. Janet and Wilbert later divorced but remained the best of friends. He spent part of his childhood in Raceland, Louisiana, then moved with his family to Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, where he resided until May 2006, when he moved to Stafford, Texas to be near his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. He received his education through the Jefferson Parish school system. He worked various jobs as a truck driver and retired from the City of Kenner as a Cement Finisher in 2003. Wilbert's hobbies and enjoyment were restoring antique furniture, cooking, watching old AMC movies and during football season watching and cheering for his beloved New Orleans Saints. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends. Wilbert leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Edna (Timothy) Jackson; stepson Cody Crockem; grandchildren, Joelle and Timothy Jackson II; and step-grandchildren Collin Crockem and Joshua Wolfe; his brother, Burnell Tunson; ex wife, Janet Crockem. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Wilbert was preceded in death by his father, Taylor Tunson; mother Corrine Garrison Evans Tunson; 2 brothers, Rev. Medrick Washington (Rose) and Izard Evans, Sr. (Rosemary); 3 sisters, Mercedes Evans Granger (Willie), Eula Mae Evans Jackson-Baldwin, and Corrine Tunson-Butler and God-daughter, Linda Jackson Barnes. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Richardson Funeral Home, 11112 Jefferson Hwy., River Ridge, LA 70123. Viewing will begin at 12:00 p.m. Interment: Love and Charity Cemetery, Kenner, LA. Richardson Funeral Home of Jefferson, River Ridge, LA in charge of arrangements.
