William E. Finne, a cherished husband, father and esteemed engineer, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2024, in Slidell, Louisiana. Born on April 22, 1935, in Seattle, Washington, William lived a life marked by dedication, love, and intellectual pursuit. William is survived by his loving wife, Doris Costa Finne; his son, William Jeffrey Finne; his daughters, Laurie Finne and Lisa Ruiz; and his son, Larry Nuss. From his early years, William's intelligence and passion shone brightly. He graduated from Ballard High School as the youngest in his class, where he was a member of the Honor Society and an active participant on the tennis team. His leadership skills were evident as he served as the Master Councilor of the Occidental Chapter, Order of DeMolay in Seattle. William's academic journey led him to the University of Washington, where in 1956; he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, setting the stage for a remarkable career. William's professional life was nothing short of illustrious. His initial work as a Project Engineer for the nuclear submarine program at Electric Boat Company laid the foundation for a 43 year tenure in naval construction programs. His contributions were pivotal in the design and engineering of cutting-edge naval vessels, including nuclear submarines, "Polar Class" icebreakers, hydrofoil patrol ships, and the air cushion landing craft used by the USMC. In 1971, William brought his expertise to Lockheed Shipbuilding Company as a Chief Marine Engineer, where he served until 1988. His career culminated with his retirement from Avondale Shipyard in 2000, marking a legacy of innovation and excellence. In the midst of his career, William's entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Washington Home Leasing Corporation in 1996, and Southern Home Rentals in 2005, further showcasing his multifaceted talents. Beyond his professional achievements, William was an ardent supporter of his hometown sports teams, including Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Mariners, and Washington Huskies Football team. His passion for horse racing also brought him great joy and excitement. Those who knew William would describe him as intelligent, loving and passionate-a man who brought his best to every endeavor and relationship. As Albert Einstein once said, "Only life lived for others is a life worthwhile." William embodied this sentiment through his commitment to his family, his work and his community. He leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments and a family that will remember him for his boundless love and the wisdom he imparted. William's life journey from the shores of Seattle to his final days in Slidell was a testament to the enduring strength of the human spirit. His memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. William E. Finne will be deeply missed, but his impact will resonate for generations to come. Long Live the King!
