FLAG HUGHES Willie Abraham Hughes Sunrise January 3, 1927 Sunset May 11, 2008 Willie departed this life on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the age of eighty-one, a lifel long resident of New Orleans, LA. He was a member of National Maritime Union, where he served as a Merchant Marine for twenty-seven years. He also served in the United States Navy. Willie Hughes was preceded in death by his mother, Octavia Swayne Hughes, father Willie Hughes, sister Elizabeth Hughes Forte and brother, Alvester Barnes. He is survived by his ex- and only wife Dellarene Hughes. Devoted friend Annie Pierre. He is also survived by twelve adult children and two children are deceased: Joycelyn Hughes (deceased), Irene Patricia Hughes Williams, Willie Hughes (Joan), Sharon Marie Hughes Harris, Bernell Hughes, Ivy Jean Hughes Williams (deceased), Kenneth Hughes, Darold Leon Hughes, Sr. (Pauline), Sherman Leon Hughes, Sr., Alvester Leonard Hughes (Wanda), Lynette Hughes Minerva Rivers, Marcus Randy Hughes, Sr., Kevin Hughes (Fredricka) and Errol Hughes, Sr. (Mandisa); one sister, Shirley Collins; nieces: Sylvia Gross, Carolyn Wilson Stokes and Christine Collins Hypolite (Shelby). Older cousins whom he regarded as sisters and brothers: Peter Hughes (Seglenda), Othello Edwards (Loretta), Louis Davis (Rena), Barbara Benn (Kermit), Harry Patterson and Robert Green (Wanda); grandchildren: Ferris Martin Williams (Sherri), Damion Williams (Tova), Gia Patrice Williams, Steve Williams, Terial Harris, Rolland K. Jones (Ranet), Ariane Monique Jones, Kendrick Hughes, Sabrina Hughes Hamilton (Jeffrey), Alnisha Hughes Jolla, Kanisha Hughes, Davonne Hughes, Sherman Hughes, Jr., Samuel Hughes, Sharmayne Hughes, Sharis Hughes, Darold Hughes, Jr., Anthony Hughes, Kenneth Hughes, Jr., Kentrell Hughes, Marcus Hughes, Jr., Marcus Hughes, Jr. (deceased), Amber Hughes, Javon'e Hughes, Vincent Hughes, Taquenica Hughes, Keena Hughes, Errol Hughes, Jr. and Mekayla Hughes. He is also survived by a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the services. Church, Olive Branch Baptist Church, Second Baptist Church, Morning Star Baptist Church, Beautiful Zion Baptist Church, Asia Baptist Church, St. Mary's Place Baptist Church, St. Joseph Baptist Church, Pure Light Baptist Church, Ephesian Baptist Church, Epheuss Seventh Day Adventist Church, Greater Grace Baptist Church, Nazarene Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees fo Medical Center of Louisiana, Home Depot, Jolten Paints, New Orleans Parish Schools, Corp., Wal Mart, Porsche of Houston, TX, Federal Express of Memphis, TN, St. Francis Hospital of Memphis, TN, Yellow Cab Co., Liberty Cab Co., St. Anna's Village, Comcast of Memphis, TN, Southern Eye Surgery Center of Memphis, TN, Woldenberg Village, Public School System of Olive Branch, MS, New Orleans Taxi Cab Bureau and United States Navy. Services will be held at Clio Place Baptist Church, located at 2624 South Dorgenois Street, New Orleans, LA 70125, Sherman Leon Hughes, Sr., officiating the services. Dismissal Service is at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2008. The body can be viewed 9:00 - 9:45 a.m. Interment in Olive Branch Cemetery located on Wall Blvd. in Algiers, LA.
