Willie "Pop Bill" Martin, age 78, exchanged time for eternity on Tuesday, October 25, 2022, at his residence. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Marrero, LA. Willie was a graduate of Lincoln high School. He was a retired truck driver of Texaco Company and the Jefferson Parish Water Department. Willie was a faithful member of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church for over 57 years, until his health began to decline. He was active with several ministries of the church, which include the Deacon Ministry, Sick and Shut-in Committee, Bible Class Leader at the church, Louisiana Training Institute, and Angola State Penitentiary, St. Mary's Male Chorus and Westbank Male Chorus to just name a few. For his outstanding leadership he was recognized as Father of the Year, as well as Man of the Year. Loving father of Willie, Martin Jr. OF Marrero, LA, Dennis (Catina) Martin, Sr. of Texas, Philip (Kimberly) Martin, Sr. of North Carolina, and Rena' Rachel Martin of Marrero, LA. Son of the late Earl Sr. and Lucy Martin. Beloved brother of Earl Martin, Jr., Henry Martin, Esther M. Louis, Irma M. (Benjamin) Cole, Larry (Sandra) Martin, Ruth I. Payne, Alvin D. Martin, Barbara J. Martin, James Martin, and the late Baby Evelyn Martin all of Marrero, LA. Godfather of Alisha Mitchell, Tanya Ross, and Jessica Goirl. Also cherishing his memories are 16 loving grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at St. Mary Missionary Baptist Church, 6223 6th Ave., Marrero, LA on Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Edward Joseph III, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30 a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA. Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service, 230 Monroe St., Gretna, LA. Mr. Willie shared more with my husband Donald than with me. Donald would go over and visit and do things for him. Periodically, he would ask me to fix Mr. Willie a plate. He and I would always share hello's in passing as he sit on his porch. I remember once he came over and picked up a possum out of the yard for which I will always be grateful. He is now in a better place where we are all headed one day, home. For the word says when we are absent here, we are present with the Lord. Donald and my prayers are with you all during this time. Just look up and trust God during this time knowing that even in our midnights we can experience the peace and joy that comes from Him and Him alone. God bless you all. Donald and Lucy Johnson

My condolences to Mr. Martin´s offspring, siblings, etc...

Just a few words to let the world know that Mr. Martin was a fine neighbor. He would check on us - walking the block- as we in return would check on him; particularly, when we didn´t see him sitting on the porch.

My family and I took great pleasure in dropping off a meal (voluntarily); for Mr. Martin always had a smile and an occasional joke. Our joy and peace was because of his gratitude towards mankind...very appreciative for God´s favor.

My fondest "up and personal" memory was on New Year´s Day 2022, when he joined us for an outdoor breakfast. It was a little chilly, but Mr. Martin brought so much warmth to the day´s event. So, as 2023 quickly approaches, we will do no less than "Cherish The Day" in honor of our dear neighbor, Mr. Willie Martin, Sr.

Pop Bill u will be missed by many..I was glad to share your last days with you I will always cherish the days you took my side over Willie's and will remember the days you tricked him for chocolate....I know you're happy now and you can RIP....we needed you here but God needed you the most....Love you Pop Bill..
