Austin J. Dinville
August 27, 1988 - September 18, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the tragic passing of Austin James Dinville, age 37, of Ramona, Calif. He left us far too soon on September 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and dearest friends during his final hours. While his passing means we all will miss him very much, Austin continues to live on in our hearts, our memories and in the many individuals who received his life-saving organs that were Austin's final selfless act on this earth.
Austin was born on August 27, 1988, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Jylann Dinville and Robert McDowell. For his first four years Austin and his mother resided in Glenwood, Iowa. In 1993 his grandparents moved to a farm near Council Bluffs, and they moved with them. Austin attended several schools in Council Bluffs including Lewis Central, St. Alberts, Kirn Middle School, and Abraham Lincoln High School. Ultimately, he earned his General Education Diploma and furthered his education at Iowa Western Community College receiving his associate's degree in electronic engineering technology.
Austin held many different jobs before settling on a career. He enjoyed working at Harrah's in security and then dealing at the tables, experienced building cell towers, and eventually settling into commercial and residential construction. One day he began having a recurring dream walking on a beach feeling like everything was all right in his world. He eventually decided he had to follow that dream and see what it leads him to. So, in 2019 he moved from Iowa to Ramona, California, near the San Diego area. He gained employment doing construction and eventually chose a career in home and bathroom remodeling and shower installation. He was employed with Bath Fitters at the time of his passing where he truly enjoyed where he worked and the people he worked with. He was admired for his work ethic and dedication to every job. His clients appreciated his eye for the smallest of details and commitment to making sure the job was done right and not complete until they both were 100% satisfied with the outcome.
Austin brought immeasurable joy and laughter to everyone who knew him. He was known for his boisterous personality, quick wit and never-quit attitude. Austin played on the basketball and football teams in school. From an early age baseball was his sport of choice and he was exceptional at his position on the pitcher's mound. He also was a member of 4-H showing steers, swine, and sheep at Westfair. While living in Iowa, Austin was an avid fisherman and hunter. In California he enjoyed hiking the mountains around Ramona, visiting the many beaches near San Diego enjoying the water, boogie boarding, snorkeling, or just relaxing on the beach listening to the waves. His favorite place was La Jolla spending hours exploring the many tide pools there. Other activities he enjoyed were going on whale watching excursions, going to concerts, and snuggling at home with his kitties, Boomer and Tink.
Austin was preceded in death by his grandparents Gerald and Patricia Dinville (formerly of Council Bluffs). Growing up, Austin spent most of his time with them on their farm. He was extremely close to his grandparents and loved them dearly. He is survived by his mother, Jyl Dinville of Underwood, his uncle Greg (Lori) Dinville of Zimmerman Minn., his aunt Mariruth (Jeff) Gruis of Gardner, Kan.; cousins Bradley, Cassia, Tony, Ian; many extended family members and his army of friends, some whom were more like brothers.
A Memorial service has been planned for Saturday November 15th at Cutler-O'Neill Chapel in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Visitation will start at 1 pm with the Memorial service beginning at 2 pm. Immediately following, there will be a reception held at the Walnut Hill Reception Hall. These events will be informal so please dress casually and comfortably. A private inurnment will be scheduled later. Memorials will be handled by the family and sent to Creepy Crawlies Reptile and Exotics Rescue in San Diego.
