David Nelson McConnell, age 85, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, passed away peacefully at home on July 9, 2021. David was born in Des Moines, Iowa to the Late Donald and Lelia "Nelson" McConnell on April 6, 1936. He was baptized April 6, 1946, at Union Park Christian Church and confirmed November 12, 1961, at St. John Lutheran Church in Madrid, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in Des Moines in 1954, Drake University in 1959 with a BS in Elementary Education, and Drake University in 1965 with an MS in Elementary School Administration. He served in the US Army from 1959 to 1961 in Germany. He married Nancy Olson August 12, 1961, in Madrid, Iowa. They were blessed with 2 children, Paul and Kristie. They moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa in 1972 where he became an Elementary School Principal. He retired from education in 1998 after 43 years of teaching. He was an active member of Timothy Lutheran Church holding various officer positions and singing in the choir. He loved to bowl, play cards, work in the yard, and participated in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren's activities. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald McConnell and his daughter in law, Deborah (Havlovic) McConnell. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy McConnell; son, Paul McConnell of Omaha; daughter, Kristie Sollazzo of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Olivia Nieman and husband Andrew, Matthew McConnell, Bailey Sollazzo, and Paige McConnell; great grandchildren, Addy and AJ Nieman and Ryder and Reece Rodriguez. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday July 13, at the Timothy Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., July 14, at Timothy Lutheran Church with Pastor Bill Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be given to Timothy Lutheran Church (3112 West Broadway, Council Bluffs, IA 51501) or St. Croix Hospice (1920 Rue Street ste 3, Council Bluffs, IA 51513).
