Genevieve "Gen" Betty (Boro) Merrick, 81, of Palestine, Texas died Thursday November 18, 2021 at the Hospice of East Texas in Tyler, Texas. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, November 27, 2021, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church. The Rev. Mark A. Maresh and Rev. Donald A. Buhrman will concelebrate. Private family inurnment will be in Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, November 26, 2021, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Curran Funeral Chapel, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the family with designation at a later date. Your thoughts may be given at www.curranfuneralchapel.com under Gen's obituary. Curran Funeral Chapel is assisting the family. Genevieve was born on December 20, 1939 at Omaha, Nebraska. She is the only daughter of Edward Leonard and Bernice Beatrice (Sova) Boro. Survivors of her immediate family include her daughters and sons-in-law: Janelle (Steve) Riehle of Grand Island, NE; Rita (Patrick) Lyness of Ben Wheeler, TX; Tammy Merrick of Grand Island, NE; Amy (Brent) Stark of Palestine, TX; Sons and daughters-in-law: Gregory (Jerilyn) Merrick of Central City, NE; Charles "Chuck" (Emily) Merrick of Grand Island, NE; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. 3 brothers: Edward (Sandy) Boro, Lawrence Boro, and Theodore (Sheri) Boro, all of Omaha, Nebraska, and many nieces and nephews. Gen is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Douglas Merrick.
