Mary Jordan
1936 - 2021
Mary M. (Schmitz) Roberts-Forrester-Jordan was born on March 11, 1936. She was the youngest child of Ruth (Britt) and Herman A. Schmitz. Mary joined older sister Geraldine "Gerry" (Scott) and brothers Herman "Sonny" Schmitz and James "Jimmy" Schmitz. Mary attended Bloomer and St. Francis schools where she enjoyed English, reading and PE. She was active in church activities at both St. Francis and St. Pete's. Mary married Albert "Abbie" Roberts Jr.; two children Albert 'Butchie' Roberts and Sherrel were born to this family. She later married Jack L. Forrester where they lived in rural Macedonia and Treynor. During the time of rural living, she learned how to be a 'country' wife and homemaker. She tended to family, chickens and milk cows. After learning the country lifestyle; she became business minded selling eggs and cream to the Malvern Creamery. As she adapted to rural living, the family continued to grow with the births of Jack Jr, Margaret "Peg", David, Barb and Jeff. Along with caring for her young family she cared for her MIL Ida Forrester. She lived with her family in the town of Treynor for many years. After moving to Council Bluffs, she met and married Glen Jordan Jr.; they enjoyed camping, fishing, antique shopping and card games with friends. Mary worked several odd jobs; eventually finding a good match in caring for residents of the Notre Dame Academy Convent in Omaha NE. After retirement, she located to Immanuel Courtyard Independent living; eventually moving to the Immanuel Courtyard Assisted Living where she remained until death. The Immanuel Communities offered many social and faith based activities which she thoroughly enjoyed. Mom enjoyed bowling at the Treynor Bowling Alley, Treynor Legion Turkey Bingo and Saturday night Tripoli with the Schmitz clan. She received her GED from Treynor Schools; ever proud of earning her GED was having the Treynor town mayor as a classmate. Mom was a consummate reader, bridge partner, cross-word puzzler and thrift shopper. Not many could extend a pound of ground beef from Jerry's Supermarket with Quaker oats to a meatloaf meal for her large family! Mary was preceded in death by husbands Jack, Abbie and Glen. Also preceding her in death were her heavenly infants, granddaughter Becky Forrester, grandson Marshall Roberts and sister Gerry. She is survived by brothers Sonny of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Jimmy (Julie) of Wickenburg, AZ; along with children Butch and DeAnna Roberts, DeWitt IA, Sheri and Jay Fry, Council Bluffs, Jack Forrester, Hastings NE, Peg Hockett, Des Moines, IA, David and Tammy Forrester, Oakland IA, Barb and Barney Rempe, Omaha, NE and Jeff and Brenda Forrester of Oakland, IA. She is also survived by her many grandchildren, great-grand children, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends from her Immanuel Community . The family offers many thanks to the Immanuel Courtyard staff including Katie, Barb, Michelle, Beth, Candace, and Ann-Marie and to all members of their teams. Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Foundation. A celebration of life will be announced at a later time.
