Norma J. "Billie" Viola, age 91, of Council Bluffs, passed away October 12, 2021 at Risen Son Nursing Home. Billie was born August 26, 1930 in Missouri Valley, Iowa to the late Gilbert and Helen (Moore) Storrs. She graduated from Missouri Valley High School in 1948 and from Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing in 1952. Billie earned her BS Degree from the College of St. Francis in 1980. She married John Viola on May 24, 1950. They were blessed with four children, John, Robert, Carol and Albert. She worked at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in 1969, then went to work at the Cogley Clinic for Dr. James Maniscalco till January of 1970. Billie started at Mercy Hospital in 1972 and retired in 1992, then worked for the VNA in Omaha for a short time until her full retirement. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church; the Altar and Rosary Society; Jennie Edmundson Alumni; Mercy Hospital Nurses; South Omaha Eagles Club; Rock of A Polka Group; Birthday Club; and Ladies Roller Skating Dance Club. In addition to her parents, Billie was preceded in death by her son, Robert Viola and sister, Leota Ferguson. Billie is survived by her husband of 71 years, John Viola of Council Bluffs; son, John (Colleen) Viola of Ft. Worth, Texas; daughter, Carol (John) Zimmerman; son, Albert Viola; daughter- in-law, Marilyn Heitman-Viola all of Council Bluffs; 6 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; sister, Gennelle Wilson in Michigan; nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Friday, 2 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel with a special presentation by the Mercy Hospital Nurse Honor Guard. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Family receiving friends one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association.
